A very warm and welcoming new single from Chillin" delivers what I would consider to be the heart of nostalgia at its best. The song beckons childhood and time spent at your grandparents' house. All the purity of being a kid and the wonders of what may lie ahead for you are amazingly captured in this inviting piece of work, and listening to it sort of makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
The single absolutely showcases a bit of a southern undertone, giving the song an Americana approach and aesthetic, but it also balances the line into folk and more.
The whole tone of this single is something that wraps itself around you like a warm hug. The lyrics are super descriptive and talk about being at Gran and Pop's as children, running around the yard, hanging out with the dog on the front porch, playing games, and just feeling alive.
This is a track that makes you feel. Any of us who can relate to it automatically picture our own youth and get flashes of hanging out with our grandparents at their place when we were young. The sentiment is so incredibly on the spot that everything lyrically paints such a vivid picture in your head as the song unfolds.
I definitely feel like we all need a song like this. I think we need music that makes us remember things that we may have forgotten otherwise.
I'm not saying we just forget that kind of stuff. We all remember what it's like to be young, hopefully.
But specifically hanging out at our grandparents and being a kid had a certain sense of freeing spirit to it. And Chillin" was able to really capture this sentiment and with a charm.
I automatically connected with this track because of course; I grew up spending some time with the grandparents' house when I was a kid. It was different than the way it's described in the song which again, is very detailed, but still it made perfect sense to me.
This is their story of being a kid on those weekends at the grandparents.
I spent plenty more than just weekends, but I definitely understand the feeling that you get when you think about that.
When you listen to the song, sometimes even certain senses or smells come back to you from those days.
I love songs that give you these bouts of nostalgia. This one really hit the nail on the head, not just because of the lyrics, but also because of the mood that the music actually sets for the song as well.
It was very beautifully done and well-woven, bringing to light some Southern tone with acoustic guitars and that classic swing rhythm, beckoning hints of country in their influence.
The whole thing holds a very particular kind of aesthetic, and I think that a lot of us can really relate to the song to the point where we do indeed picture things in our head or start remembering our own childhood on those particular days at the grandparents' house, where it felt like the world was still ahead of us.
I definitely I'm a big fan of this group, and this was a different kind of song for them. The group always manages to branch off in different directions depending on what they feel like writing, but this one had a very specific tonality that really felt good to listen to.
And in a certain way, it's kind of bittersweet. This, of course, is because childhood is over, but looking back at those days makes you appreciate that you had them at all.
The vocals are beautifully performed and again with plenty of heart, which is the main aspect of the song that grabs you.
This is a song that came from a very real place. A place that a lot of us can almost touch or taste.
For anyone who loves classic style folk or Americana music that has depth, layers, and warmth, this track is not one that you want to miss at all.
As a matter of fact, I would listen to this one with headphones on. This way, you don't miss any of those detailed and descriptive lyrics that paint that picture for you.
If you had a certain kind of childhood, then I'm positive this song will spark those memories.
The guitar work is excellent, the whole thing comes through with a bit of that youthful soul, and it's important to have songs that again, let us remember, let us feel, and let us connect again to our childhoods in any way.
This song does all of that
So, definitely check this out when you can, and while you're at it, I would delve into some of the back catalog of the group because there's a lot to soak in there, too.
Check this out now so you can really see exactly where I'm coming from with this.
