A Huge and Theatrical Metal Single from A Day In Pompeii

ree

A Day In Pompeii return with a massive new single spanning almost 7 Minutes in length and hitting this sort of Gothic, theatrical, and orchestrated metal approach with some outstanding changes, riffs, and belting vocals that just empower the entire track and energize this fantastical metal opus of a song.

The new single is called 'Gorgon's Head". It all starts with some clean guitars and some great lead work over that. The lead guitar stuff isn't shredding; it's just melodic to add a little bit more depth to the already ambient and vast tonality of the track.

The vocals come in strong right from the get-go. You are pulled right into her hypnotic and intense sort of vocal approach, and the singing really brings this gorgeous texture to the song and doesn't pull away from any of its edginess or intensity either. If anything, it adds to some of the intensity because of the lyrics and how she's singing them.

Soon enough, the track opens up into heaviness, and the drumming is unbelievable. The whole track has a very tight click to it. Everything is based on these guitar riffs that are again, very theatrical to me, and there are also these organs that are performed underneath the main heavy guitars, and this adds even more to that cinematic feel and helps the aesthetic of the song Come Through the way it was meant to.

Along with the organs, you also have these almost chanting Style vocals that are like dark gospel voices. All of this follows that riff melodically, and because there are so many layers of that hook and melody happening it just comes through with this thick wall of texture and sound.

There is a really heavy-handed sonic drive and presence to this track, but that's usual for the band. These guys are a metal and heavy rock outfit that always bring something a little bit different to the table, and this track, to me, feels more theatrical than some of the previous works I've heard.

I love how, after the heaviness hits and the main sections and it exhales back down to a calm aesthetic once more. Back to the verse where it's clean guitars and those gorgeous vocals are just sucking you into the atmosphere that the song delivers.

The vocalist is amazing at producing these harmonies that aren't just normal harmonies. She utilizes her voice to create layers of texture and sound so the vocals match that in terms of that robust tonality.

The track breaks into a bridge where it's still not thrashing or fast really, the chords are still doing trudging riffs with palm mutes, and all the organs and dark gospel vocals are still there feeding into the already almost Gothic intensity and sound of the song.

Some great vocals come into play. And their fists in the air, almost punk crew style crowd vocals, and I love how that adds more impact to the edginess and heaviness of those sections.

This track is such a great job of breathing. It feels alive and breathing the entire time with the swells of intensity and exhales back down to verses. These are signs of amazing arrangement and songwriting, attention to composition, and an overall love for what they're doing.

This band wanted to create a story and deliver it in a heavily theatrical and dark Edge sense, which was accomplished perfectly.

For me, the guitar work and vocals were across the board absolutely outstanding. They helped bring the atmosphere to life, and the vocals did so well at telling the story with this certain kind of passion and her singing.

It was so powerful that it was almost operatic, but wasn't.

I love this brand of orchestrated and Theatrical metal because it does tell such a cool story, and with some descriptive detail as well, so it helps you paint the picture

This is an expansive song that actually showcases how this band can put together something pretty massive.

Like I said before, the track is almost 7 minutes long, so it does have this big feel to it and certainly isn't a quick banger. This is a track that pulls you in and takes you for that journey.

What's cool is that halfway through the song, you end up wanting to know what happens next.

I'm not going to give away exactly what the song is about. You'll have to listen to it for yourself. But you are in for a story told in a specific way.

You'll definitely have to check it out to see exactly what I mean, but it's well worth your time, especially if you love that edgy, theatrically approached metal style.

Take a deep dive into this one as soon as you can.
