An album release from Vineetha Menon just dropped. The record consists of a series of devotional songs from India that she has revived and reprised to bring into today's world. Along with all that, you get introduced to a culturally lush and abundant musical experience that feels both spiritual and intense as much as it is beautiful.
This is a record bursting with that cultural personality and really gives you insight into some of the classic and decades-old songs and pieces that the artist has derived from her culture, being raised between both India and Wales.
Vineetha has grown up around devotion and enlightenment, and so these songs are a love letter and an ode to the importance and impact that those aspects have had on her life.
I find it rewarding and welcoming to hear these songs. It must have been amazing to actually get this record completed, as it feels it would have been cathartic in a sense.
The record offers such an absolutely unique set of vibrations, percussion, vocal approach, imitation, and more.
Songs can come through packed with string sections, giving a huge and orchestral soundscape that you get pulled into, and as you do, you let everything surround you.
Getting swallowed up by this record feels outstanding, and when you do this, you're able to get a better understanding of Indian culture and some of these gorgeous songs that have now been reprised by an artist who has a real love for her own culture, personality, family, and where she comes from.
All of these things in combination are what make this record so impactful.
It is very important to understand how this all came together and why the artist did it.
Vineetha now lives in Oceanside, California where she runs the yoga studio but she never loses touch with her culture as she hosts Sacred Music Gatherings that have provided over 15,000 meals for the underprivileged in India.
Being able to bring together those elements of her musical upbringing and her cultural upbringing and utilizing those things to build something special and give back, is unbelievably spirited and humble.
This is a gorgeous record that I would suggest listening to from start to finish because then you can soak in all of the layers, textures, and beautiful tonalities that it actually offers.
There's so much beauty in a record like this one, and one of such nature does not come along all too often, so I suggest you dive into it because if you do, you will come out feeling a little bit different.
There's something about an album like this that changes a person. It opens your eyes a little bit, and even if not in a cultural sense, and a musical one, this can touch you, and it's important for music to break new boundaries in our minds, and this is the perfect record to do so.
Some tracks incorporate elements of pop in their undertones, the vocal approaches are gorgeous from start to finish, her voice has such a smooth feel and tonality to it that it's alluring and almost feels like an instrument itself amongst the rest of the music.
Some of these songs are incredibly danceable, while others feel more spiritual and let you drink them in as they unfold.
This is absolutely a record like no other, spanning 20 songs in length, including an introduction.
The full album is about an hour and 20 minutes in length. This is an experience you should have.
It hit me pretty hard, and I loved it. I would listen to this one with headphones on, which I usually suggest with any kind of music that has these kinds of textural layers to it.
Definitely join Vineetha Menon for this amazing and blissful experience that takes you through her upbringing, culture, and musical attributes, all with a welcoming Grace that you can feel while you listen.
