A new single release from Ruby Grove delivers a massive amount of character and a sense of theatrical sensibility as the track unfolds into these dramatic and driving sections in the form of an excitable and almost haunting progressive and psychedelic rock experience.
"Crystal Land" is a track that has a wild growth to it and it builds in that intensity level the deeper in you go. This is something I adore because it gives the song the sense of being alive and breathing in its own way.
One of the things that grabbed me about this track at the very beginning was this great synth that was used to draw in this almost colorful and slightly edgy introduction to the song and as it unravels you have great guitar riffs and again, this theatrical undertone that helps push the envelope to the point where the song is engulfing.
There's something super intense and almost operatic about this track and you find yourself getting pulled away from your surroundings and put into this whole different place altogether, but I think that's part of the point of the song. It is indeed fantastical in a sense and a musical journey that has a way of staying with you long after you've listened to it.
You can hear some real-deal classic rock influences throughout this track and the combination of this band's energy and the impactful and sort of robust vocal approach really works well.
This is great because when you listen to it you sort of get the sense of a live performance. It's like everyone involved is just feeding off of each other's energies the entire time and this also adds to the whole alive and breathing feel that the song gives off.
The track is about 5 minutes in length and by the time you get to the end of it you're in a sort of tailspin and that intensity level is risen to the maximum.
The end of this ride is a crazy one and it showcases the band's ability to write and release music with much fewer boundaries than the norm which I think is brilliant.
This is a great track, and it does have danceability to it, it's got a lot of character and personality which is part of what you get attached to the most along with the whole backbone storyline of it.
But again, this is more of an experience than just a single and it makes you curious about the rest of the band's releases.
Of course, upon listening to this track I did check out some other releases and they are definitely worth listening to as well because they show some of the other side of their songwriting and approaches but also keep to some of the staple fields that I'm hearing on this single as well.
I can say that you can hear a little bit of an evolution in the band's sound and that "Crystal Land" is definitely unlike anything that they've done quite before but I feel like it's a step in an amazing direction because it's experimental, rich, and has both color and edginess to it.
There's this great funk undertone to it that gives hints of jazz, pop-rock, and more and for the last minute or so, the track does indeed go off into this wild place where the haunt comes into play, and you get this kind of eerie soundscape that builds and builds until you get washed away with it.
This was something different. It had layers to it and the actual arrangement and progression of it was outstanding, especially in the way that it just expands.
It's the type of track that you want to listen to more than once just to be able to catch everything that's going on, especially towards the end.
Dive into this track and see how it kind of creeps and crawls as it delivers an atmosphere that keeps floating around in your head.
