A new single release from Duck delivers a unique brand of outside-the-box soundscapes that takes elements of soul, rock, and more, and blends them all together to create a unique sort of atmosphere that you end up getting attached to quite quickly.
"Freakz" comes through with a smooth and alluring approach with this R&B style groove that comes along with flowing guitars that give the song this silky effect along with vocals that are just packed with soul, and this ends up breaking open into a more rock style chorus complete with layers of awesome tonalities which include guitars, synths and more.
This is a track that has its own thing going on and it's not easy to frame it into a genre, and this is something I actually love about it because again, it takes several genres and puts them together to create something that seems completely seamless and has this natural forward moving flow to it.
This whole song has a sort of alive and breathing feel to it because it's got swells and sways all the way through.
The verses are calm, smooth, and sultry, and the hooks and choruses are bright, impactful, and colorful.
The energy is a key element to why this track works so damn well. It's completely electric to the point where it feels like the whole thing may have been recorded live on the floor to an extent and the players involved are just feeding off each other's energies the entire time.
Now, I could be completely wrong about the whole 'live on the floor' thing of course but, listening to this track really makes you want to see them live simply because if this kind of energy is captured on record, then seeing them live must be unreal.
The keys are essential in this track and there's even a massive keyboard slash a synth solo that happens towards the end of the track that just blows me away.
This is one of those tracks where every element of the song pushes the next one. The guitars, drums, and keys along with the bass guitar all complement each other and the whole band complements the vocals.
With a track like this, it is super important to have vocals that have an impact, and this vocalist pulls it off perfectly because the whole track feels super colorful with this wild pop overcoat, and the vocals carry that along with a super soulful approach but, they are still a bit animated and colorful as well.
The energy level of the vocalist and the style and approach of how he sings matches this band perfectly.
This was an extremely fun song that really showcases their ability to jam and write music with a certain kind of freedom and with fewer boundaries than you might be used to.
The groove is undeniable, and you just want to move to this song right away and that energy and vivacious approach is really infectious.
It also never really lets up but instead gets a bit more intense as it plays on which I also adore about the track.
This was easily addictive, and charismatic, it had heart, the essence of a live performance, and an undertone of improvisation to an extent.
It was just freeing and welcoming, bright but with tiny hints of edginess and its underbelly.
One of the most fun songs I've heard in a while, check out "Freakz" and while you're at it take a listen to some of their other releases as well because after listening to this track, I took a little bit of a deep dive into their back catalog on Spotify and wow.
There's a ton of stuff to groove with, and you just really want to jam right along with them.
But don't just take my word for it, have yourself listen, and don't be afraid to turn it up.
