A single release from Just Rick has a very roots folk tonality to it but also a bit of a lush instrumental approach as it layers acoustic and electric guitars along with some percussion and really well performed vocal harmonies across its soundscape but I think it's the story that really grabs you.
"Ole' Mountain Hippie" has such vividly descriptive lyrics that you can start picturing this person as the song unfolds more and more. I love this because you don't get it a lot so when you hear a song that's so detailed in its visual approach, it's really fun because you get more attached to the song and the story behind it.
You can definitely hear plenty of Americana and country undertones along with that roots folk style and it all feels kind of warm and welcoming in its own way.
This has a great color or really, set of colors to it and I enjoy the vibes that it gives off and how semi-vintage it comes across as well.
One of my favorite aspects about this single is the guitar work because it's really done well and adds that southern tonality especially with the electric guitars. They lay out these licks so to speak, and those give the song an added life and a little bit more animation.
This was really a beautiful song and as you listen through, it does have a message behind it but I'm not going to give the whole thing away of course.
I think we've all known someone like the ole' mountain hippie and Just Rick really nailed not only the descriptive aspect of it but the emotion behind it and the musical style that fits perfectly with this story.
As the song plays on you get a bit of a build with lusher approaches including some great backing vocals, harmonies, and aspects that make the song thicker in a sense and it's got this sort of natural forward moving flow.
I definitely adore hearing that Americana and southern influence coming through in the song because it's not over the top. It's Simply hinted at and the instrumentation really lets that pull through but the vocal approach also gives off a certain kind of warmth because it's very well-rounded and gives off these great melodic vocal hooks that stick with you long after the song is over.
Upon listening to the single I took a little swim through the artists back catalog and I'm glad I did because there is a massive amount of amazing releases that he has under his belt and they all started in 2019 on Spotify anyway.
When you listen to more of his music you get more of a country feel, classic rock influences, and a lot more that all get rolled up into these different songs.
I found it quite fun to listen to his evolution as a songwriter and I can honestly say he always sticks to his roots although the song writing changes here and there and shows different sides of his personality as well as his artistry.
Again, this was a very welcoming and sort of warm track that paints such a great picture for you to follow along with an amazing amount of detail lyrically and this is one of the biggest reasons why the song is so addictive.
It's almost like reading a chapter in a book. Those details are things that you hold on to.
I would definitely recommend not only checking out this track but taking a dabble into his previous releases as well because if you do like this song, then you're going to really like his previous releases as they all have some great stuff to offer.
Check this one out as soon as you can, and you'll see what I mean.
