The latest from Kacey Fifield delivers a massive blend of catchy and vast pop that comes through in a very cinematic style, along with a rock backbone served up with heavy-handed guitars and robust choruses, and it's all laced together with loads of character, which is something the artist always portrays well in her music.
"OUT OF MY MIND" certainly is hard where it wants to. This is an edgy track that features synthesizers to go along with those heavy guitars, adding a different layer and a sort of new texture to those choruses. The combination of the synths with the guitars comes through with an incredible Sonic presence.
During the verses, things are a little bit calmer. You have the beat, which is approached more lightly, along with the synthesizers that set up those climactic pinnacles, and the builds are outstanding.
She comes up with some really great vocal melodies, even during the verses. This is a very catchy single, and she doesn't like the over-the-top pop sensibility that she holds close to her heart, but this one definitely has an alternative feel to it.
You can hear her having a good time on this track. Extra little attitude and swagger during certain parts of the song, and you just get engulfed by that.
This is definitely an artist who's able to give a lot of personality and is unafraid to come at a track with the right kind of approach. The attitude says it all.
There is definitely a bit of a haunting undertone to the song as well. Some of the vocal tracks are ghostly and have those dark overtones during their melodies, which goes right along with the vibe of the track and the overall edginess, but it also applies to the accompanying music video very well.
The music video for this track is a full-on piece of work.
It's basically a short film, and throughout it all you have Kasey being stalked on a subway.
As the trains roll past, you see a man in a mask on the platform across the way.
She gets startled and creeped out pretty easily, as anyone would.
As she walks across the platform, the man grabs her from behind, and just then, she wakes up from the nightmare.
She walks through the city streets, looking over her shoulder in fear.
She goes to perform a live show, and the man in the mask is there, but she seems a little bit more fearless this time, like she's prepared for him.
This was an incredibly well-thought-out and shot music video. It's got such a great storyline to it, and the balance between the song and the visuals is damn near perfect.
In the live performance segment, she's locking out and giving a lot of natural stage presence, and you can see some of the band performing along with her.
I'm not going to give away the end of the video, but it's something that you'll have to watch to find out.
I do honestly feel like this was a standout piece of work, and the first time you listen to the song should be by way of watching this video.
The single boasts some grit and fierceness along with that haunting and dark overtone, and I think that her taking this darker alternative direction absolutely worked because again, she still has the pop intact.
The "OUT OF MY MIND" music video is an official selection for Dances with Films 2026 and will be screening at the TLC Chinese Theater on the 26th of this month.
After watching the video, I wanted to talk with Kacey about how the video happened and more.
Check out our fresh interview with Kacey Fifield now, and remember where you heard it first.
Hello Kacey! Let's talk about the single "Out Of My Mind" first of all! This track was edgy and fun!
Thanks so much! The song was a lot of fun to write and came about super quickly in a writing session last summer. It's also a blast to perform it live!
What inspired the song for you?
I wrote OUT OF MIND to describe the feeling of being metaphorically haunted by an ex. The
spooky ambience of the verses contrasts with the guitar shredding of the chorus to represent the intense feeling of seeing a former flame again, after time has passed. The hook of the song is “Out of sight, out of sight, out of mind” which is essentially the thesis of the song. I took the title “OUT O MIND” from that lyric to emphasize the way this metaphorical haunting can make you feel crazy!
The music video was shot so well! It had that horror movie/stalker feel! Did you direct the video? How involved were you with that whole thing?
Thank you! Yes, I wrote, directed, and edited the video. I worked with an amazing DP, Varvara Aristakesyan, and two incredible ADs, Alice Xavier and Marie Louisa von Planta. Having a small but passionate and talented team made the shoot go very smoothly, and the video ended up coming together exactly how I imagined.
The video is an official selection for Dances With Films 2026, screening at the TCL Chinese Theater on June 26th correct? How did that happen and did you expect anything like this?
Yes! This is my first time attending a film festival as a director, and Dances With Films is an incredible festival, so it's such an honor. I'm so excited to see the video on a screen bigger than I ever expected!
Did it take long for you to complete the video?
The video was filmed in one full day shoot and two night shoots. I edited it in three days. We had a super quick turnaround time, since I wanted to release the video on Halloween.
Was the video drawn from any sort of personal situations, or just pure fiction?
Luckily, no personal experiences with masked killers!!! I had a lot of fun being imaginative while writing the script.
What performances do you have up coming now?
I'm currently working on scheduling my next few shows! Dates will be announced on my Instagram (@kaceyfifield) when confirmed.
What's the plan from here?
I'm working on loads of more music, film projects, and planning my next few live shows. Stay tuned for updates!
What inspired you to sing in the first place? Did you come from a musical family or household?
My family wasn't necessarily musical, but I've always loved singing along to songs on the radio and my favorite TV shows. I loved the shows Victorious and Big Time Rush growing up, so singing along naturally developed into writing and creating my own music.
This whole thing was outstanding! I hope to see and hear more soon! In the meantime, anything you want to add?
Thank you so much to everyone for the support on OUT OF MIND!
