A Catchy Rock Banger from Seven Year Witch

A brand-new single from Seven Year Witch brings out a soulful rock soiree in the form of memorable riffs and powerful, belting vocals along with a catchy tonality and an unstoppable character which you end up getting quite attached to right from the get-go.

"What's In the Trunk?" gives off a hell of a lot of flavor and delivers such a fun and catchy energy that gives you the feeling of classic arena rock bands but blended in with this southern Soul rock approach and hints of garage in its underbelly.

The combination of that impactful and soulful vocal approach with the heavy-handed riff really makes for a colorful but edgy single, and you end up finding yourself wanting to sing along.

The whole song bops and it's that rhythm that makes it so catchy for the most part. The energy, again, is completely electric, so it almost feels like this track was recorded live on the floor to an extent and all the players involved were just feeding off of each other the entire time.

Even if I'm wrong about the whole live on the floor thing, listening to this track makes you want to go see them live simply because of this kind of energy captured on record, then seeing them live must be intense.

And that's the thing. This track has a certain level of intensity along with that groove factor and those two things together really make for something memorable.

Everything right down to the tone of the guitars is spot on and these guys really capture a wondrous blend of rock subgenres, and they do it completely seamlessly as well.

The whole band has charm and swagger. Not just the vocals although I can say the vocals push that swagger. The entire band has this thing where everyone pushes each other further.

The bass and guitars push the vocals. The drums push the bass and guitars. And everything hits this sort of heavy drive but never without losing that colorful character that it starts with in the first place.

You can hear some of the heavier influences here as well. Towards the middle and end of the song, you do get that higher level of intensity with more trudging guitar sections and the whole thing reaches a massive point with an almost orchestrated feel.

Layers of textures and a heavily lush soundscape end up taking over your brain.

The last half of the song just feels like there's so much going on and there are these days that float through the ether of the song and the vocals start doubling up and harmonizing, doing octaves, and more.

So, by the time you get to a certain point the song it's just this massive thing and I love songs that can build this way and still even starts off incredibly addictive.

It's all very satiating.

This is a track that sticks with you and ends up bouncing around in your head for hours on end and the best part about it is a lot of times it's not even just the chorus. It's some of the verses that really stick with you as well.

Upon listening to this track, I took a deep dive into the band's catalog on Spotify. There is a ton of amazing stuff these guys have released starting from 2018 and on. This includes an album that came out this year as well that's unbelievable.

It's called Calamity and it's something that you should listen to from beginning to end because they're surprises around the corners, inventive guitar playing, ultra-catchiness, and just a whole experience waiting there for you.

So, here's the thing. These guys bring back a certain kind of rock that I feel blends heavier with swagger, garage, with classic rock, and alternative rock with hints of metal, and it's all rolled into an intense and memorable sonic drive.

If you dig this song which I couldn't imagine why you wouldn't, you're going to love the rest of their stuff so definitely listen to more after this track.

I will definitely be keeping an eye out for these guys from here on and can't wait for the next thing they release.
