A beautifully constructed album release from Katie Knipp delivers a spirited array of songs that have pop undertones gleaming through while atop it all sits this soulful and theatrical soundscape and songwriting approach that feels like it's all built on honesty to the point where this record feels like chapters in Katie's life and to soak it all in properly, listening to the full album is an absolute must.
The album is titled Me and rightfully so because when you listen through this record you get pieces of the artist with each individual song, and they do have such a wonderful way of sort of connecting with each other, so it makes it feel almost like a concept record of sorts.
Throughout the course of this album, you get a mass array of piano-driven pop-soul songs that all have a little bit of swagger, attitude, or edge to them, and you get so much to soak in that this is the kind of record that you actually listen to a few times in a row just to be able to grasp it all.
This is way more of an experience than just an album and listening to it is an amazing escape into someone else's world partially because it's so big but also because it's so theatrical and in-depth in so many different ways.
I absolutely adore the blend of southern-toned Americana and rock blended in with jazz undertones, contemporary pop approaches, and across of vintage and new school forms of songwriting that breed a unique sound altogether but one that creates an atmosphere that you fall right into.
This record delivers so much more than you may even be ready for to be honest because it's got impact and such memorable performances by all parts that it's a lot to wrap your head around and that to me, is so much fun I can't even explain it.
It has been literally forever since I was able to dive into a record like this and have it wrap itself around me so I become completely engulfed and it's something that I've missed in music for quite some time.
These songs allow you to paint visuals in your head as they play through, and it's delivered with such an incredibly Lush and robust character that it's undeniably addictive.
Each song seems to give a little something new and tasteful and there is such a vivaciousness in the way that Katie performs throughout this record to the point where the energy on it is impeccable almost like these songs were recorded live on the floor and everyone involved was just feeding off of each other the entire time.
This was a brilliantly woven and passionately written soiree of an album that takes you for a massive musical ride that you don't really want to come back from when it's over.
It's fun, charismatic, vibrant, colorful, detailed, storytelling, cinematic, impactful, memorable, and insanely infectious right from the very first track.
The whole thing is electric and trust me when I tell you, you haven't heard anything like this in quite a long time.
Growing up in the '80s and '90s especially, I certainly was one of many who found love with artists like Fiona Apple for example and you can hear those kinds of influences thriving in this record as well along with many others like classic jazz influences too.
There's just so much this recording encompasses and so much that it dishes out that you feel completely satiated by the time it's over.
If you listen to this full album, which I highly suggest you do because listening to one or two songs is not going to give you anywhere near the full spectrum of what it has to offer, then you will end up having to reacclimate yourself back to reality again when it's over.
Sit back, put some headphones on, and dive into this one right now.
