With the release of The RecColletions album, Girls Named Jennifer takes the best parts of some classic genres and builds a fresh take on a vintage sound. Laced with addictive melodies, synthesized melodies, and plenty of character, the record boasts the aesthetic of retro-pop anthems.
The first single "He Don't Dance" is a tasteful and infectious song built with pop tones that let the song shine.
"The song is about an ex moving on with someone new. You're sad it ended but you want what's best for them. The new person treats em good but they'll never have that special thing you did and in this case he don't dance the way I do. This song is a good representation of the album over all. It's nostalgic, upbeat and playful." explains songwriter Joe Lipari of his single.
Although the single speaks volumes for the album, to get a full understanding of where Girls Named Jennifer is really coming from, the full album is a must hear.
"I use lots of retro synth sounds and drums programmed from keyboards. The drums in this song were from the Korg Wavestation and some of the percussion was from my mouth. This record is different from my first. This has some more modern ideas in it and each song varies in style but still all in the 80s vein." says the artist of creating the album.
Girls Named Jennifer is the brainchild of songwriter Joe Lipari and the passion project has grown into something more than he expected.
Playing in bands since he was a teenager, Lipari played drums in pop punk bands, performed with electro-pop groups, and played bass in alt-pop acts as well.
His love of music never died out however and later, he would find that a computer and keyboards were his new instruments of choice.
With the goal of creating nostalgic tracks that could be a soundtrack for your memories. And that he certainly did.
The RecCollections album is a testament to where he is at with his sound right now.
