With the release of the Midnight Sessions EP, Timewalk takes a new approach to blending genres to create something all its own. Laced with character, an edgy and colorful undertone, and plenty of hooks, the record boasts the aesthetic of electronic pop-rock anthems.
One of the singles and title track "Midnight Sessions" grabs you with powerful and cinematic tones that
let it breathe and swell as it plays on.
"It was really special to finally release Midnight Sessions. I originally wrote the song about 10 years ago for a different project and held onto it because the lyrics were so intriguing to me. The ambiguity
allowed them to be about a romantic encounter or some tragic abduction. It’s a fun mystery. Is it a love
song or some murder ballad?" explains Michael Silverman (vocals/guitar/bass).
Others like "Preacher" give off a more southern roots rock feel that blends into a progressive style.
"Preacher" is probably the most unique track on the EP. It centers on a religious figure, but conveys
wickedness and horror in a playful, almost theatrical way." says Colin Smith (vocals/keyboard/bass).
Although the singles speak volumes for the release, to get a full understanding of what Timewalk is
capable of, the EP should be heard in its entirety.
Commenting on the evolution of the record’s sound, Silverman says, “I think it became more focused
and heavier. It started off as a distinctive jammy vintage sound. We love Yes and Gentle Giant. But as we
developed the songs and tinkered with new ideas during the recording process, crisper modern
productions emerged.”
Timewalk was formed in 2018 when Michael Silverman invited Colin Smith, high school friend and
former bandmate, to join his project with drummer and guitarist Josh Schnellbach. The three of them
bonded through their love of 60s and 70s prog, 80s synth pop, and 90s hard rock.
As the band puts it, "We all like dark sci-fi fantasy and grew up during the golden rise of the NES. You
can hear the influence in the EP "
The Midnight Sessions EP is available now on Spotify, Apple Music, and other major streaming outlets.
