Spotlight Interview with Whitney Nechelle

A fresh new release from Whitney Nechelle is a wonderland of alluring R&B that gets you breathing heavy and gets your body moving with flowing music that goes right along with soulful and vibrant but sultry vocals.

The Capricorn album is album of absolute bangers that all portray a little bit of a different side of the artist and how she performs and writes her songs.

The record has swagger and style, and the songs are packed with an infectious attitude that just gets your attention from the first minute and keeps it going until the very end.

These songs all feel alive and breathing and the music is brimming with synth pads swelling and keeping this floaty and ambient as the vocals just swim atop everything perfectly letting you really soak in the lyrics and presence.

This was a well woven record and it's all incredibly balanced and addictive.

There are some great surprises throughout the course of the album, and it all keep you in tune with the feel and vibe of it all.

The grooves are deep as hell, and it has a way of grabbing hold of you and not letting go.

Some songs come through harder hitting than others, but they all connect perfectly and have a sexy overtone that has you coming back for more.

Some tracks even come through cinematic and powerful which is amazing.

This album has no boundaries and Whitney keeps true to her sound.

RAG: Okay so let's start with the Capricorn album. This record had an outstanding R&B style to it and brought a lot of extra fire! Where did this album come from?

Every song on the album has come from personal stories and or late nights in the studio trying to get an outlet for how I was feeling. There is no big record label telling me what to produce and what to write. I spent much time with artist development and also working with some talented producers and engineers.

RAG: I'm hearing some great styles on this release. Who are some of your biggest musical influences?

I'm mostly influenced by sounds from the 90s and a sprinkle of new age music.

RAG: So how did this all begin for you really? When did you fall in love with making music?

I have been performing since I was 3 years old. So I would say it started from the day I started to walk and talk. Then I became a mother and a wife and I let music go for a few years and realize that I needed an outlet once again. I built a studio in my house and lost days and nights in there. Making music and being in the studio is my therapy. You know we all need some type of therapy in this day and age...lol!!

RAG: What's next for you as an artist?

I feel like I can't even answer that question because I'm just getting started. There are no brakes! I feel like the captain of the plane is saying the next stop is the sky. And we all know the sky's the limit!

RAG: What inspires you to write a song?

Sometimes I write songs instead of writing in a journal. Or I like to play a song when I feel a certain type of way. Sometimes I'll play a song over and over again LOL you would not want to be one in the room after a few hours. My songs are moments in real life and I hope my fans feel they are experiencing a piece of my reality.

RAG: What are you doing when you're NOT working on music?

I am hanging out with my immediate family. I truly enjoy being with my loved ones. Whether I'm just kicking it in the pool listening to music and dancing or cooking a new meal in the kitchen.

RAG: Who are you listening to right now?

Right now my headphones are playing people like Jazmine Sullivan, the Internet, Sabrina Claudio, and I can't forget my all-time favorite Janet Jackson! Of course this is just to name a few.

RAG: Are you doing live performances?

Yes. Right now I would say my favorite cities to perform in are Atlanta, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles.

RAG: This album seems like a big undertaking. What kind of advice might you have for other up and coming artists out there?

I would say that I love the ability to go downstairs and make music at any time in my studio. It would benefit an artist to truly have access to a studio. There are songs that I spent hours on that did not make the album but since the studio was in my home I was not rushed or nor did I feel like I wasted a lot of money for studio time. Invest in good equipment and into an office space where you can make magic come alive at any time!

RAG: Before we go, what would you like to say to fans of the music?

I would say that this is just the beginning and please continue to support and put the music out there by Whitney Nechelle. Please follow me on my website WhitneyNechelle.com. You will find tour dates, bio, visuals, and have the ability to directly reach out to my team for performing requests. My fans can also connect with me on Instagram.
