Spotlight Interview With Travesty

Canadian alt rock band Travesty just dropped a killer single called "Friends With Benefits" and it's a radio friendly banger from beginning to end.

The bands pop punk undertones comes right out on this one and the song comes through with a raw energy that crushes throughout its course.

With a heavy sound, crunching guitars pulling of pitch harmonics, hard hitting back bone, and a chorus that won't quit, Travesty is certainly onto something good.

"Friends With Benefits" is a great example of a band making their own path in the rock arena and doing it with gusto.

This is not the bands first rodeo as they have been releasing music professionally since at least 2018.

You can hear the evolution in the bands songwriting from then to now and this single shows their chops well.

With a new single released, we wanted to sit down with these guys and have a chat about where all this came from and what's next for them.

RAG: Okay so let's start with "Friends With Benefits". This track is a massive pop punk track with all kinds of killer alternative and hard rock styles all rolled into one track. Where did this track come from?

Travesty: “Friends With Benefits” was born from us jamming in our studio, Netflix on in the background with the “Hot Or Not” Tv show preview on repeat. Stefan played a riff and we told him to repeat it until we could figure out a chord progression to match it. We stayed up all night to continue writing. This song came together within 12 hours and hit the studios that week to record it. We added a few finishing touches with our producer Alex Krotz and pushed forward with releasing our first single off our second record.

RAG: This track is a great follow up to your 2019 Outspoken album. Were you guys happy with this song as a next step for the bands sound?

Travesty: Friends with benefits helps merge each of our musical styles in all the ways we wanted our new single to sound.

RAG: So how did this all start for you?

Travesty: The sound came together with our new line up, styles and the personalities of each of us combined. Meeting at parties and regular life outings, we were brought together with our common interests in life. Music being that one thing that keeps us coming back for more.

RAG: This song makes me feel like you guys are a kickass live band. Did you used to play live shows? Will you focus on that when the time comes again?

Travesty: We were tearing up London Ontario before covid set in. Live shows are what we play music for. We pride ourselves in putting on a high energy performance, while engaging with fans as much as we can. Our live shows are where we bring the intensity and look forward to the excitement we get from the crowds.

RAG: What's next for you as an band?

Travesty: We are looking forward to being able to get back on the live stage again.

For the time being we will continue practicing for our live shows and live stream performances. To keep us busy and creative we are currently recording a full album and frequently releasing singles. Keep your eyes and ears open for our next release!

RAG: What does a band like you do when you're NOT working on music?

Travesty: We party just as hard as we play. On our off time we spend together you can find us boating, wake surfing, fishing, dirt biking, playing pool and hot tubbing.

RAG: You've been releasing music for quite a few years. Any advice you'd give to other up and coming artists trying to get heard out there?

Travesty: Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and try. Not everything we create makes the cut in the end but the ones that do can change your life or even someone else's.

RAG: Before we go, what would you say to your fans right now?

Travesty: We would like to say thank you to everyone who supports us! We look forward to seeing everyone out at our live shows someday soon.

New music on its way, stay tuned!
