A Gorgeous and Honest Release from Katy Tessman

A recent album release from Katy Tessman delivers a beautifully woven, honest, and at times very descriptive soundscape that comes with a certain kind of warmth that has a way of wrapping itself around you and that creates a feeling of being welcome.

Katy has a very particular way of writing and performing her songs and the tracks across the Fly album are beautifully orchestrated and lush with robust and flowing soundscapes and textures that blend together to create an atmosphere that you fall right into.

With each of these songs it feels like the artist is giving a piece of herself and when you listen to the entire album as a whole the songs almost feel like chapters from her life, and this is only one of the many reasons to be listening to the full record and not just a few songs.

There are more than a few that stick out as singles for sure, however, if you only listen to a few tracks from this beautiful record, then you're not getting the full spectrum of what it has to offer.

This is a very full band type of feel and it gives off an acoustic and Americana approach a lot of the time but it's Katy's vocals that draw you in because they're so emotionally driven and gracefully performed that you can tell everything that is being sung is authentic and comes from a real place.

This record does come with a beautiful array of instrumentation, and you get slide guitars, acoustic guitars outstanding percussion, keys, and all kinds of notes that float through the ether of certain tracks and it all comes together in such a beautiful way.

One of my favorite aspects about this record is that there are a lot of surprises around the corners especially musically and she's able to change the songwriting approach a little bit here and there so that by the time you get halfway through the record, you begin to expect some of the unexpected.

I find this completely refreshing and Katy has an amazing way of delivering everything with such character, and this sticks throughout the entire album so you end up getting attached to it in the beginning, and by the time you get through the end of the record, you feel like you even know her better as a person.

This is a rarity in music especially these days so to hear it now is completely refreshing and almost rejuvenating in a way.

Listening to this full album is like an escape in a way. It has a way of pulling you away from your surroundings and taking you into someone else's life and again, at times some of her lyrics could be so descriptive that you can paint vivid pictures in your head.

The record also boasts a lot of heart and a love for Americana and folk music in general as she utilizes rustic undertones and country approaches as well throughout the record but along with those, there are also those orchestrated and almost cinematic feeling songs and so the blending of those feels natural and makes everything more deepening.

This was a beautiful record from beginning to end with a wonderful persona, charisma, honesty, bravery, and a gorgeous soundscape.

It is very easy to get engulfed and eventually washed away with this record and that feels great.

I'm going to give this a 9 out of 10 because of all these beautiful elements that are incorporated throughout the songs along with this robust honesty.

Definitely listen to this album when you can and in my opinion, do it with headphones so you can soak everything in properly.
